Culmination week
We made it through Saturday's Hell.
Hell...is as it says. We run the show twice.
Hell is held on the Saturday before we open. We started Life's Hell at 2pm. We took about an hour and a half to get everything ready all costumes, lights, full props and fights. We have already been working with props and a bit of lights and music. We don't mime props. If you don't have the book you are suppose to have, use something else....anything, just get something in your hand until the proper object is obtained.
We started the run with everything in place and it went pretty well. We realized during the show there were a few places where things needed to be changed (line interp, blocking or lighting cues). After the show was over, everyone changed out of their costumes and pizza was ordered. We all gathered on stage for the director's, assistant director's and artisic director's notes. We settled in for food with pencils and scripts in hand. After about 1.5-2 hours or so of notes, we took a bit of a break to get ready for the speed through. The speed through is just as it sounds. You say your lines as fast as what is comfortable. All props and lighting cues are followed as well but no costumes. There is to be no acting and no emoting, just the lines. The directors watch the script during this run and make notes of words or lines that were dropped or changed. After the speed through, they tell us what we missed and we are to work on it during the week. Speed through this time was 1 hour and 15 min- fastest ever. We actually left the building a little after 10pm. Hell was over.
It is looking like a show. A very different Prenzie experience for myself as an actor and certainly a memorable one for the audience as well.
